When researching archival records please keep in mind that an archival fonds is records created and kept by a person or an organization in the course of their day-to-day activities. A collection, on the other hand, is an artificial accumulation of documents brought together on the basis of a common characteristic, e.g., subject, type of document or name of collector. A finding aid describes each archival fonds or collection.
